Flood of the Century - Kerala 2018

06th April 2024

"Alert was declared, we knew we may have a flood-like situation. But who would have imagined 16 feet of flood water even in the wildest of dreams? I could barely manage to survive because my house is on higher planes so we had a flood water of height 8-10 feet. In some areas, houses were swept away, and family members were dislocated. The flow of water was so heavy that people were flown to different locations. And because there was no proper road or landmark to locate, and hotels were closed, there was no way back home for them.

The government administration team started counting deaths and helping the families find their missing members, many others joined hands to help the survivors with food and clothes. I also joined and lent a helping hand. Together we started managing meals. After two days, monetary help and clothes reached us from different parts of the world. A doctor started visiting every morning and evening.
Medical aid was being provided to those who needed it. The sight started getting better, but the whole incident changed our lives in so many ways. We started believing in humanity as we came together to help each other. No one hesitated to help or ask for one, there was no judgment or bias around it. When we received help from around the globe, we realized the value of unity. Also, when there is no hope or possibility, God does rescue us. We saw so many temples being converted into rescue centers. God has his way to help us. A temple with a capacity of 300 was bearing 800 people, that's nothing short of a miracle. Just when I thought, that's it, this will be the end; Life happened again. I call it my rebirth, that's my destiny. He helped me survive it."
