After surviving post-partum depression for almost a year, I joined an all-women closed community on
Facebook as a moderator. I used to write various posts there that got good engagement and
appreciation. I gradually started gaining my confidence back from that time.
Social media has played a crucial role in my career that shaped me into a writer/ author after I
embraced motherhood. So many fruitful collaborations have been possible only because I had access to
social media. New friendships bloomed, and older ones cherished, courtesy of social media. Not like
it has been all rosy, I had my share of harsh lessons learned too, but being someone who tries to
look at the brighter side, I would confess more good has happened to me than bad through social
media.
Even now, I am judged for being too active on social media. Because I post a lot, sometimes because
I am too straightforward in the opinions that I express. But nothing of it stopped me from doing
what my heart says. I do not intend to ask everyone to join social media, but a humble request, do
not stop using it:
1) because someone said something.
2) Because the trends make you feel you are not enough.
3) because the response was not as desired.
4) because numbers keep varying/ dropping.
The ones who don't use it at all: Do you think you are not missing out on anything? That is fine, do not judge others based on how and how much they use it.
Honestly, it is about finding the right people to follow, and the right sources that give you information about your desired field. So, don't use social media less, use it more, rightly and wisely.
