An Unforgettable Night

1st April 2025

The title may give you a feel of an erotic story ahead, but you should rather sit with a tub of popcorn, I insist.

This incident dates back to 2012. 4 friends (2 girls and 2 boys) who are not couples are in the final year of engineering. They are JUST FRIENDS, at least they think so! Nitya, Isha, Sumedh, and Ajoy, I have changed the names to maintain confidentiality. After listening to numerous night-out adventures from peers, these guys are too tempted to taste the joy of it. They zero it down to celebrate their too anticipated first-semester submissions, just before Diwali. Nitya stays in a girl's hostel, Ajoy in a boy's hostel, Isha has 3 girls as her roommates in a rented flat and Sumedh also stays with his friends in a flat. They keep postponing their night-out mission because the venue is a problem. They want to have fun but safely, how ironic this is to the later part of the story, you will realize!

Sumedh has two tickets booked for both his sisters who stay in an independent flat and fortunately are going home for Diwali two days earlier than him. Finally, the wish of the four friends comes true. They buy some ready dosa batter for an uttapam party (the reason being they are easy to make!) This flat is located in a residential society which does not encourage friendship with the opposite gender.

The 4 meet as decided, there is music that is playing, soft drinks that are being sipped, jokes and teasing happening and simultaneously uttapams are being flipped too. After filling their tummies, they start playing dumb charades, which results in one of those laughter riots where all 4 of them keep laughing and it does not stop. This happens at 11.45 pm. Two of the resident families come knocking at the door as it becomes unbearable for them, only to learn that there are boys as well as girls inside the flat. Thinking of it to be a fishy affair, they threaten to call the police. The boys apologize and somehow request the residents to return to their homes promising them it won't happen again. Sumedh and Ajoy are determined to escape without risk giving all the residents a slip. Sumedh was more concerned because his sisters had to stay in the same flat for the rest of the year. They peep in the corridor, they sense silence. They indicate Nitya and Isha come out carrying their footwear in their hands instead of wearing them as the sound of heels probably would give an idea to residents of these guys sneaking out. Taking each step carefully, the girls finally reach parking. Sumedh and Ajoy do not ignite their bikes instead drag them for a short distance, ask the girls to sit behind, and then ride to save their lives.

They decided to go to Sumedh's flat for 2-3 hours, which was around 1.5 km from his sister's flat. The moment they reach the main road a police van which is probably on night patrolling duty starts following them. Sumedh rides his bike from the tiny lanes to deceive them, Ajoy with Isha behind him follows closely. Nitya prompted Isha to hide the number plate of the vehicle by spreading her kurta and hiding it. After 10 mins of riding and chasing, they reach Sumedh's flat where they gulp water like they rode through deserts. In November, they sweated like it was May!

After they settled in, Isha was upset that the police were chasing them. Ajoy kept calming her down. Nitya was pacifying Sumedh from the panic of society residents and then the police. It took half an hour for the four of them to normalize. And then the laughter riot continued!
