We need good starters before our main meals, right? Tomorrow marks the beginning of the Border
Gavaskar trophy and hence I picked up "Cricket post COVID" by Vibhor Bijoy.
If a book like this comes to a home where cricket fans live, it takes time to get access to it.
First son, then husband, and then I got my hands on it. I am a cricket fan, but I only watch a match
at the moment and forget the stats. Of course, I do remember the iconic ones, but not every minute
detail. And that's why I want to appreciate Vibhor for the depth of research and his sharp memory
for the accurate stats mentioned in the book.
He has written this book country-wise, which means how has the post-COVID scenario been for one
particular country, as far as cricket is concerned, at a time. His honest thoughts and opinions on
certain teams are noteworthy. I loved the chapter Afghanistan - The True Warriors and Australia -
Winners on the field, Losers off the field. The sarcasm in the chapter Pakistan - Legends of
Unpredictability made me chuckle! 🤭 And about South Africa, I would like to add from my side, they
have great individual players, the skill is not the problem, a good leader is.
I spent a good entertaining hour reading this book today, it's a short one (50 pages!) but mind you,
on the point. If you are wondering why I did not mention India here, because as Vibhor claims it to
be his emotional journey, that chapter you should read directly from the book, I insist.
Adding an unpopular opinion here: From the time clubs and leagues have entered cricket World, the
players seem a little casual as far as nationwide teams and matches are concerned. This is strictly
my opinion. I would like to know yours!
