Book Review : Spilled It Again

01st Feb 2024

"Poetry is ordinary language raised to the Nth power. Poetry is boned with ideas, nerved and blooded with emotions, all held together by the delicate, tough skin of words." - Paul Engle

I had to dabble with a few poetry quotes to find the one that went perfectly with Tanvi's book - "Spilled It Again". The book lives up to its subtitle as it promises to stir your emotions. Holding the paperback copy with a separate handwritten note, and finding my name in the acknowledgments have been the highlights of the reading process!

100 poems and 185 pages do not seem long, but the kind of assimilation it demands makes it bigger. I could have read it in one go, but the intent of writing it asked for more time to understand it completely. The book is divided into 4 sections and each section does not necessarily have a fixed poem count. The titles of the poems are unusually lengthy, but they do make the desired impact. The titles that remained in my head and the poems that remained with me are: Unraveling Life's Game, Who Am I?, Nostalgia Unbound, Embraced the Change, For a Life, I Chose the Truth, Letter That I Never Posted, I want to die, A Thought that twisted my happiness, Why Ain't People Happy In this world?, Society, Sorry, It could leave a Scar, It's Too late When We Realize, Why is She to be Blamed.

With a huge variety and unique opinions, this book does offer you more than just poetry. There will be times when it will pull you out of the conventional thought process and compel you to think otherwise. And that will require quiet and quality time. Consider this book as your leisure reading, when you are prepared to accept changes and think more. Then this one will not disappoint you!
