There are times when I fail to exhibit my middle-class traits, because they may not match up to the
fancy vibe of the aesthetic places I may be at. So, physically, I am there but in my head, I am
thinking, "Let me choose the cheapest thing on the Menu. Oops, that's water!", "What if I only pay
at the entrance of this fancy co-working cafe for an hour and don't order anything to eat? Will they
allow me to sit idle, I mean, without ordering anything to eat or drink?", "This item which has been
on my wish list for the longest time, is now available at a discount, and shipping is waived off
too. But do I need it? Really?", "Let us order one by two instead of two different and one single.",
"Wow, this looks so cool. (After checking the price) But it is not worth it! I may get the same for
a lesser price on the streets or somewhere else.", "This course is highly priced, what if it doesn't
turn out to be value for money? Let's skip it.", "This session is free. Let me register for it. I
can attend if I am available." I can go on and on with these thoughts and still never be ashamed of
them. Because that's how we have been raised, normalizing unpopular opinions and thinking
practically and rationally.
There are a few pros as well, which I am more proud of. We are solution-centric people, we always
have a backup and Jugaad in our minds. We do not give up easily and are hopelessly hopeful. We talk
less than we know and do more than we are expected to, always. We take responsibility and hold
ourselves accountable too. We are not ashamed of apologizing when we goof up, also because our ego
is less important than the stuff that has to be done. What has to be done, has to be done. We may do
FBI-level research for our mundane purchases, and most of the things we research we may not even end
up buying. That is because each penny we earn or invest is worth our blood and sweat.
Thoughts that always made me feel awkward to be expressed, the ones I thought were unpopular
opinions, are out in the universe now!
