Zoonosis

30th April 2024

Sharon brings a pet home, it's their first time. Infant David starts catching some or the other infection post that. After visiting the doctor for the third time in a month, Sharon decides to find the root cause. On the third visit, she asks the doctor, "Rabies is an animal disease, how can a human catch it?"

Doctor responds, "Some diseases her transferred from animals to humans. And this is one of them. Tell me if David has been exposed to animals more in recent times?" Then Sharon mentions getting a new pet at home. She does all the formalities at the clinic counter and on her way back reads a prescription that says "Zoonosis", to know more about it, she Googles the term and reads, "A zoonosis is an infectious disease that has jumped from a non-human animal to humans. Zoonotic pathogens may be bacterial, viral, or parasitic, or may involve unconventional agents and can spread to humans through direct contact or food, water, or the environment.

This includes at home and away from home, in places like petting zoos, fairs, schools, stores, and parks. Insects, like mosquitoes fleas, and ticks bite people and animals day and night. Thankfully, there are things you can do to protect yourself and your family from zoonotic diseases. Keep your hands clean."

After reading this, she tries to dig more to learn the precautions!
