They say, "Life comes in a full circle," and I realize it now. When I was almost 10, I clearly
remember my mom saying, "Somethings you will understand when you are a mom/a parent." I am not sure
if I understood those things or not, but I have already started telling my son about them!
Parenting was difficult then, and it is tough now as well. The difference is struggles were
different back then, and they are something else now. Times have changed, lifestyles have changed,
and technology is easily available and accessible. Our parents used to think we had an easy life,
today we think our kids have an easy life. For them, it is so easy to talk about the bigger things
at an early age. But is life that easy? For anyone?
Like we had our struggles growing up, they are not spared from their share of struggles.
Amidst everything that is happening around us, what should not be ignored is raising them, and we
must be instilling kindness in them. We should make sure they are grounded. And above all, we raise
them as good humans and responsible citizens. This may look difficult to keep in mind every moment
we are living through this rollercoaster ride of parenting. Especially considering the times we are
living in now.
Every day there is a new thing I have to say no to. "Everyone does it like that. Why don't you allow
me?" That is the right time to preach, a time to make them realize they have the option of choosing
what is right and what is wrong in the long run. Sometimes we even have to give in and let them
learn the lesson the hard way. Disclaimer: Choose the one that causes lesser harm.
In a decade of being a parent, I have learned, there is no right or wrong way, there is no my way or
highway, try to find a mid-way always. Make sure there is a healthy balance between giving in and
making them compromise.
