Psycho Path

Are Monsters Born or Created?

This is the thought-provoking question that lingers after you finish reading the book, and it is also a central theme within the narrative. You will find it challenging to empathize or connect with any of the characters, as they have been crafted with an extraordinary level of complexity. Kudos to the author for executing this so effectively.

The plot maintains an unsettling balance by shifting back and forth in time. This book follows non-linear storytelling technique, and it has worked very well for this genre. Just when you are convinced you have figured out who is manipulating whom, a change in the timeline brings a change in the characters' motives, leaving you intrigued and guessing until the very end. As a mother whose child is a pre-teen, this book left me with a different feeling, a very
unsettling one.
The narrative forces readers to confront the uncomfortable possibility that society's own systemic failures and cruelties actively breed the predators it dreads as it is highly influenced by the classic nature versus nurture argument. Adding a fascinating layer to this psychological puzzle is the character of Niya Kapoor, who introduces the provocative theory that psychopathy isn't a neurological defect or a "broken" brain, but such traits evolve eventually.

I want to take a moment to talk about the smart word play that the author has done with the title. While most of you may think of it as Psychopath, it actually is Psycho Path. Yes, they are two different things and the later one makes more sense only after you read the book.

There were many questions I had after finishing this book. At what cost are we permitting our kids to access social media? There is a reason why authorities have kept the eligibility age to be 18 years and we should abide by it. The mother in me feels partly unsettled and partly unfair to let these things happen among teenagers.
